On Sunday 12th, 2023 a fire broke out in the Gisozi market destroying machines worth more than 50 million Rwandan francs. The market mainly deals in timber and construction materials.
It is not the first time fire broke out in Gisozi timber markets. It should be noted that almost every year there is a fire outbreak. The cause of the fire this year has not yet been established but some attribute it to either a power outage or fire from a thrown cigarette
The fire was put out by the fire police. Investigations are still underway to establish the actual cause of the fire breakout. Unfortunately, most of the property that was destroyed was not insured.
